We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Showtime Challenge, supporting their exciting 48-Hour Musical, Singin’ in the Rain.

With just 48 hours, a cast of 100 (or so) professional actors and talented amateurs, a 30-piece orchestra, and a hard-working production team will pull together a professional-standard all-singing, all-dancing musical. “It’s really exciting to be involved with the Showtime Challenge 48-Hour Musical this year, working on Singin’ in the Rain, which is such an iconic musical and has so many memorable songs,” said Rowena Taylor, ABRSM Marketing Manager.“We recently launched Singing for Musical Theatre exams at Grades 1-3, and a couple of Singin’ in the Rain songs actually feature in our syllabus.

A key focus for us when choosing the syllabus repertoire was having a focus on vocal health. So, we’re excited to partner with Showtime Challenge and help highlight how important it is to look after your voice, especially in an environment like the 48-Hour Musical that requires performers to use their voice for a pro-longed period of time.”Rehearsals for the musical start on a Friday evening and run for an exciting, exhausting 48 hours, until show time on the Sunday evening.

None of the cast have worked together on the show before this time. “We’re so grateful to ABRSM for their support. One of our key aims is to provide an opportunity for new talent to learn and gain experience, which is very much ‘in tune’ with ABRSM’s new Singing for Musical Theatre exams. We look forward to working with them,” said Ian Haig, Producer, Showtime Challenge 48-Hour Musicals.

This year’s show is being hosted by Julian Clary, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to support The Lewy Body Society.
